Understanding Sjögren's

Sjögren's is more than dry eyes and dry mouth — it's a systemic autoimmune condition that affects energy, joints, skin, and more. The clearer your understanding, the more in control you can feel.

What Sjögren's Is

An autoimmune condition where the immune system targets moisture-producing glands and other tissues throughout the body.

How It Shows Up

Dry eyes, dry mouth, deep fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, and many less-obvious symptoms that affect daily life.

Why Energy Matters

Fatigue is often the most disabling symptom. Understanding it is the first step to protecting your reserves.

Daily Self-Care

Hydration, eye care, oral care, and sleep are foundations — small consistent habits add up to meaningful relief.

Working With Doctors

Sjögren's care often involves multiple specialists. Coming prepared makes appointments more productive.

Mind & Mood

Living with a chronic condition affects mental health. Support, rest, and self-compassion are part of treatment.

The Basics

Sjögren's syndrome (pronounced SHOW-grins) is a long-term autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own moisture-producing glands. It can occur on its own (primary Sjögren's) or alongside other autoimmune conditions like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis (secondary Sjögren's).

  • It affects an estimated 4 million people in the US alone.
  • About 9 out of 10 people with Sjögren's are women.
  • It can develop at any age, though most diagnoses happen in middle adulthood.

Common Symptoms

Symptoms vary widely from person to person. Some experience mainly dryness; others live with fatigue and pain as the dominant features. Tracking patterns over time is one of the most valuable things you can do.

  • Persistent dry eyes that feel gritty, burning, or tired
  • Dry mouth that affects taste, swallowing, or dental health
  • Profound fatigue that doesn't fully improve with rest
  • Joint pain, stiffness, and swelling
  • Brain fog and difficulty concentrating
  • Dryness of the skin, nose, or other mucous membranes

Why Knowledge Is Care

Sjögren's is often misunderstood — even by the people closest to you. Learning the language of your condition helps you advocate for yourself, ask better questions, and build a care plan that actually fits your life.

You don't have to figure this out alone.

SjöHaven turns what you learn into something you can actually use — tracking symptoms, spotting patterns, and sharing what matters with the people who care for you.
